GWUC Headlines for w/e 2 July

  • Church Bulletins - In response to several concerns expressed by members of the congregation about missing Bulletin emails, a new wiki page ChurchEmailVanishing has been created to assist people in restoring the delivery of their Bulletins.

  • Club 2017 – Sunday 2 July at 12noon - Club 2017 will meet after the 11am Service on Sunday.

  • Material Aid Offering for June – Sunday 11 June - This month the Material Aid Offering will be in support of the Glen Waverley Uniting Church Welfare Committee. Non-perishables such as breakfast cereals, long-life milk, Milo, canned fruit, soups and meals, as well as tea, coffee, biscuits, toothpaste and brushes, would all be appreciated.

  • Outreach Forum - Sunday 28 May at 12noon - The Outreach Forum is on today, Sunday 28th May, at 12noon. Bring $5 to cover lunch. Speakers are Judy and Murray Lowe who will speak about their (and their friends’) work in Baguia in Timor Leste. All are welcome.

  • Pleasant Sunday Afternoon at Burwood Heights UCA - Sunday 29 May at 2pm (Cnr Burwood Highway and Blackburn Road) - A musical fundraiser will be held to showcase the church’s new Allen digital organ and grand piano, with performances by local musicians. Music by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and others. Donations towards the Organ Fund will be invited. Afternoon tea will follow.

  • Adult Group - Friday 2 June at 6.30pm - We are meeting at 6.30pm in the Fellowship Area of the Church to enjoy an evening of games and casseroles. Payment of $10 per head required. Please RSVP to Margaret Lemke on 0417 106 655.

  • This Week – Sunday 23 April - This Sunday at 10.15am the Anzac Day RSL Ceremony will be held at the Cenotaph opposite the Church. Please keep this in mind with regards to parking on Sunday.

  • 2017 COP Applications – Closing Monday 24 April - Applications for 2017 Congregation Outreach Projects close Monday 24 April. We are seeking a range of projects from local to state, national and overseas. Each project needs to be sponsored by a congregation member.   • 2017 Palm Sunday Walk for Justice – Today – Sunday 9 April at 2pm - The 2017 Palm Sunday Walk for Justice is on today, Sunday 9 April, leaving the State Library (Swanston Street, Melbourne) at 2pm. The Walk highlights concern about the harsh treatment of refugees. A flyer is available on the Stewards Table or the Outreach notice board for further details.

  • Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday – Friday 14 April - Following the 9.15am service on Good Friday, 14 April, Hot Cross Buns and a cuppa will be available in the hall. Please bring some Hot Cross Buns to share. Everyone welcome.

  • Way of the Cross – Friday 14 April at 11am - The Way of the Cross will be celebrated at Waverley Central Oval (cnr Waverley and Springvale Roads) at 11am on Good Friday. This is an ecumenical event open to all.

  • Family Easter Event – Easter Day Sunday 16 April – Volunteers Needed - Easter Sunday afternoon at 3pm we will be holding another Children’s Easter Event here.   • Material Aid Offering – Today – Sunday 12 February - The material aid offering for Sunday 12 February will be for Brentwood Secondary College’s wellbeing department. Donations of food, stationery, and toiletries are requested. Specific items required are are listed in the monthly bulletin.

  • Three Blind Mice – Mousetrap Theatre – Monday 20 February - On Monday 20 February the local production of “Three Blind Mice” will be presented at Croydon UCA at 7.30pm. Proceeds from ticket sales will assist Asylum Seekers through Lentara. Details of this production are on the Outreach noticeboard.

  • COP Committee 2017 Membership - Outreach Committee is inviting expressions of interest for a woman who is willing to serve on the COP Committee this year. For further information and expressions of interest see Neil Peters, Chair of Outreach.

  • Welfare Request - Do you have a workable iPad sitting unused at home? A local child has been requested by her primary school to bring an iPad to school. The family is struggling to pay for books, uniforms etc. and making this purchase is out of the question. If you can assist, please contact Dorothy Lockhart on 0419 133 556.

  • Adult Group – Friday 3 March from 1.45pm - Please note the change of date for the first Adult Group event for 2017. The first get-together for Adult Group in 2017 will be an afternoon tea at Madeline’s at Jells (in Jells Park) on Friday 3 March at 1.45pm. Come along and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship in a pleasant environment. An indication of your attendance would be appreciated.   • January Worship Services A reminder that during January there will be one combined worship service at 10am each week.

  • Ministry Team Movements - Rev Neil Peters and Alanee Hearnshaw will both be taking leave during January. For urgent pastoral care matters please feel free to contact Alison Clarkson on 9560 3167.

  • Welfare Request - Do you have a workable iPad sitting unused at home? A local child has been requested by her primary school to bring an iPad to school. The family is struggling to pay for books, uniforms etc. and making this purchase is out of the question. If you can assist, please contact Dorothy Lockhart on 0419 133 556.

  • Adult Group – Friday 3 February from 1.45pm - The first get-together for Adult Group in 2017 will be an afternoon tea at Madeline’s at Jells (in Jells Park) on Friday 3 February at 1.45pm. Come along and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship in a pleasant environment. An indication of your attendance would be appreciated.   • Secondhand Book Sale – March 4 from 8.30am to 1pm - A delicious Devonshire Tea will be available to refresh after your browsing. To make this event a great success we need:

  • Church Bookings for 2017 - A reminder that all church bookings for 2017 need to be finalized as soon as possible. This can be done by an email to the office.

  • 2017 Rosters - Please make sure that you carefully check the letter rack and collect any rosters that are there for you.

  • Church Council Elections – 18 December @ All Services - A ballot for election of Church Councillors will be held today at all services. Please make sure that you vote at one service today.

  • Carols on Kingsway – 18 December @ 7.30pm - Come and be part of the Christmas festivities at Carols on Kingsway at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

  • Empty Christmas Tree – Last Day to Drop Off – 18 December - Today is the last day to bring gifts for our tree. Gifts can include food items, toys, toiletries, vouchers for all ages. Gifts (preferably unwrapped) can be left under the tree until December 18, and support people in our local community and Broadmeadows UnitingCare.

  • Kids Christmas Event – 22 December from 2pm to 4pm - Join us for our annual Kids Christmas event as we explore the Christmas story in an interactive way, with entertainment, craft, activities, a little snack and challenges.   • Seniors Carol Service – 11 December at 2.30pm - All are invited to the Carol Service on Sunday 11 December at 2.30pm. An afternoon tea of cake and shortbread will be served after the service.

  • Meeting of the Congregation – 13 December - A meeting of the Congregation will be held on Tuesday 13 December at 8pm. Items on the agenda will include receiving the 2017 Budget, the Glen Waverley Uniting Church Code of Conduct, revised Congregational Outreach Project Guidelines, Staffing, and a report from Church Council.   • Christmas Morning Tea at The Hub – 8 December from 10am till 12noon - Join us for this special morning tea – the last Hub event for the year. Please add your name to the list on the office counter if you are planning to attend. Any donations will be given to needy families in our community.
