Covid Vaccination Certificate Experiences

A forum for sharing your experiences is getting a Covid vaccination certificate using CovidVaccinationCertificate.

• You need to be aware that there are two different things: myGov and MyGovID. They are different! Unfortunately, the government itself does not seem to know the difference, and the messages that you get seem to conflate the two. When I attempt to create a MyGovID, it asks for my myGov account details, which I enter (*). It then sends the SMS code, which I enter. I am then connected to a myGov page, which offers the option of connecting to the MyGovID. This says that to connect you need to do 3 things: 1. Select your identity provider. 2. Consent to share your details. 3. Digital Identity is connected.

• So I 'continue'. Redirection. step 1: you need two things: iOS device; two identity documents. Then select "Select myGovID". Redirection. Get the myGovID app. This I have done. So "Already have the myGovID app? Login with your myGovID email to continue." Yep. type in myGovID email. "Email not recognised" !!!!!! I do have a myGov email, and I have already logged in with it at step (*) above.

• $$%%$&*&^%$ and other expletives. Words fail me!!

• update. Ignore myGovID. I'm told by the help line that it is not needed. But I still don't understand why I was told to get a myGovID.
• further update. Following the instructions for linking my Medicare service, I was told my "details don't match the details on record". So I am still unable to do anything. I am now on hold to Medicare ............
• after 45 minutes, I spoke to a very helpful man called John (of course!), who took me through passport numbers, licence numbers, phone numbers, dates of birth (me and my wife), etc., etc., you don't want to know! The upshot was that they could only link my account if I could produce a birth certificate, which I don't have. I have an extract which is not good enough, and anyway, we could not find it. The final upshot of this whole sorry saga is ... (drum roll) ... Angas John Hurst is a different person to John Hurst. dah dum! So I am giving up.
• PS. Jon was not only very helpful, but also very sympathetic. His name has no 'h', and he said that he has had the same sort of experiences! All of which leads me to say, I hate bureaucracy, and I hate computers! (or rather, I hate incompetent computer programmers.)
• caveat: it is now after 2pm, and I have been working on this since I left GOMERS this morning at 11:15. Advice to others: give up now.
• Resolution: Medicare has John Hurst and myGov has Angas Hurst. Passport and Licence have Angas John Hurst. So my identification documents don’t resolve the two “different” people! I am told that getting a full birth certificate will.

• I've now got my birth certificate, and have sent it off to Medicare. Fingers crossed! But the irony is that to get my birth certificate from the (SA) Registrar Births Deaths and Marriages, I had to send in photos of my driving licence and passport - both of which were deemed insufficient evidence by Medicare! Logically:

  • A & B & C => D (A=licence, B=passport, C=birthcertificate, D=Medicare linking)

  • A & B => C

  • ergo: A & B => D ... NOT according to Medicare!

• A very simple way is to go to your myGov account select "Go to Medicare", then "History", and there it is.
• This does require a Medicare account linked to myGov.
• And no it doesn’t get it on your phone. Perhaps you could take a photo of it!!!!

AJH 12 Oct 2021 (follow this if you have a vax cert, but cannot link to Medicare)

• If none of the above works for you, I followed the advice of Medicare friend Jon, and took a photo of my certificate on my phone. I also uploaded it to the "Files" folder. Here's how, using an iPhone:
  • if you already have a copy of the certificate on your phone, skip the first 3 steps, and just display the certificate:
    • get a copy of your vax certificate on some computer, any computer.
    • email it to yourself
    • on your phone, use your email client to access and display the sent certificate
  • click the save/send icon (top right corner)
  • scroll up the display that appears to find the "Save to Files" link Click it.
  • choose the location where you want to save your certificate. I used "On my iPhone".
  • then click "Save" (top right corner). That's it. You are done.
  • Just open the "Files" icon on your home display to display your certificate when needed.

Thanks David. This worked well for me. Just one nuisance: From time to time their website sends you a code number, sometimes by email and sometimes by text message. So I was using three devices at once: my iPhone, to get the vax certificate on it, my iPad to receive the text codes, and my laptop to receive the email codes.
