The Secretary
Glen Waverley Uniting Church Council

Dear David,

I am writing to the Church Council following discussions within the Communication Committee concerning implementation of the Serving And Loving Together recommendations on church structures.

The Communications Committee embraces the recommendations accepted by the Congregational meeting on July 1st and is willing to work with the new Church Council, when it comes into operation, in any way the new Church Council wishes. The Communications Committee has already taken action to implement Serving And Loving Together recommendation 1 concerning the operation of groups. (Information about this can be found in the July Communications committee meeting minutes).

I am personally open to a change of leadership if that is considered helpful, but equally am willing to continue as Communications Committee chair. In a similar vein, the Communications Committee is happy to work under any changed terms of reference that the new Church Council may develop.

However, in the interim, life goes on and the Communications Committee plans to continue to operate as it has in the past until or unless advised otherwise.

Looking to the future, the Communications anticipates some changes in the way it is constituted and interacts with the Church Council. In particular, it is expected that the ‘new’ Communications Committee will have more devolved decision making power and not seek so many decisions from the new Church Council. Accordingly, unless explicitly asked otherwise, the Communications Committee will stop making separate reports to Church Council and instead offer the minutes of the Communications Committee as reports to the Church Council. In terms of constitution, in addition to having a member from the church council and a member from the ministerial team, we encourage adding new members representing each of the missional groups.

Although perhaps this letter is somewhat premature, I think that it is important for both the outgoing and incoming Church Councils to be aware of the thinking within the Communications Committee. By being on the record, I hope that this encourages the new Church Council to take whatever decisions they see fit concerning ongoing communications within the congregation.
