COMMUNITY HUB MISSION GROUP report for CHURCH COUNCIL October 2016

1. PLAYGROUP

The four playgroups continue to be happy and very busy.

Overall, 117 children attended in term 2, and enquiries are still constant. Overcrowding is becoming an issue, especially as many children are accompanied by two grandparents, newly arrived from China, who find GWUC playgroups a welcoming place in which to find support and make friends.

Leadership is becoming a problem. We are grateful for the wonderful service of the two leaders who are leaving us at the end of the year. Two other leaders are currently unavailable due to personal and family illness. Two more morning tea helpers are also needed. Each group started happily this term, despite wet weather!

2. LEISURE TIME

Leisure Time is continuing with its successful year. There have been two new members with a possible third together with two new volunteers. Two outings have been held, one to the Dandenong Club for lunch and the other to Morning Melodies with morning tea and lunch at the Lilydale Hotel. Both of these outings were greatly enjoyed by all in attendance. Leisure Time will be represented at the forthcoming Seniors Expo on 22nd October to be held at the Monash Council offices.

3. COEEE

This very small group continues to meet each week and enjoy their lunch and a game of Scrabble together. Geraldine Fleming

4. THE HUB

On Wednesday 17th August we held our Cupcake Day for the RSPCA morning tea, supporting the RSPCA. Donations of $400.00 were received for the RSPCA.

The Hub continues to bring many people into our church each week who are looking for support in different ways. Relationships are growing stronger with the visitors who come regularly. Many feel at home in our church and like to sit and talk with GWUC members.

The Hub and LT are taking part in the Monash Seniors’ Festival “Be Aware, Be Active, Be Awesome” on Sat. 22nd Oct. It’s like an Expo, we are having a stall each. It is being held at the Monash Council building.

Our next special morning tea will be our Seniors’ Morning Tea, on Thursday 27th October, 10am – 12noon. All donations will go to research into Motor Neurone Disease.

Children’s Nativity Photos will be happening on 28th, 29th and 30th November. Christmas cards will be given to families of Playgroup and Mini Maestros, and delivered to shops in the Kingsway. Colouring-in books will be given to children in Playgroup, Mini Maestros and GWUC children.

Our Christmas Morning Tea at The Hub will be held on Thursday 8th December with all donations going to GWUC Welfare. This will be our last day of The Hub in 2016. The Hub will resume in 2017 on Tuesday 31st January.

Some of our volunteers are unable to continue helping in 2017. We would love some new volunteers or emergency volunteers. If you would like to help The Hub by just listening and talking while enjoying a cuppa with others please contact Judith on 9803 8373.
