The 8am service is known as the ''reflective'' service. This is more a statement of intent than actual activity, since the service to the casual observer would not be seen as dramatically different from many conventional church services. It has a more or less standard form of liturgy, with prayers, hymns, bible readings, and a homily delivered by the leader of the day. The latter may take a variety of forms, from a sermon style, to an information session (such as when visiting preachers from church organizations are invited), to interactive sessions. Communion is celebrated at each service, and is often led by lay leaders. The 8am service is a communion service, reflective in style, drawing on a wide variety of modern liturgies. The form of the service is conventional. It follows a standard liturgical pattern with prayers, hymns, bible readings, and a homily delivered by the leader of the day. The latter may take a variety of forms, from a conventional sermon, exposition of the lectionary reading or a reflection/meditation on a poem or painting or piece of music. Occasionally the learning segment will focus on an outreach project currently undertaken by our congregation. Communion is always celebrated and is the focus of each service. Twice a month the service is led by a Presbytery-accredited Lay Presider.
