Philosophy of the 8:00am Service

The 8am service is known as the reflective service. This is more a statement of intent than actual activity, since the service to the casual observer would not be seen as dramatically different from many conventional church services. It has a more or less standard form of liturgy, with prayers, hymns, bible readings, and a homily delivered by the leader of the day. The latter may take a variety of forms, from a sermon style, to an information session (such as when visiting preachers from church organizations are invited), to interactive sessions. Communion is celebrated at each service, and is often led by lay leaders.

The seating is informal, in a small chapel with a movable lectern. Often the communion table is the centrepiece of the seating, which is usually arranged in a (single) circle facing inwards. Numbers are about 30-40, and many of the congregation assemble after the service to share fellowship over a cup of coffee at the local cafe.
