Welfare Committee
Our Welfare Committee provides assistance in many forms to those in our local community. This may include listening, sharing a prayer, advocacy, referring a person to an appropriate Community Agency and practical assistance such as a voucher to purchase groceries or food. Some clients are homeless, refugees, victims of family violence or suffering from mental and physical illness. Funds are raised to purchase supermarket vouchers through Uniting Care, supermarket goods and MYKI tickets.
Following an assessment, we are able to provide practical, spiritual and emotional support to those in our Church, and in the wider community, who seek our assistance.
Primarily, our focus is on the day to day living expenses and general independent functioning of individuals and families. Those we assist are encouraged to access existing community resources including those within our Church.
Donations of non-perishable food items in the bins in the foyer are always appreciated.
The coordinator is RimonSam (known as Ray)
Announcement of resignation and call for review panel members.
In early December 2024, whilst finalising our annual Performance Review, Ray advised that whilst he loves his work of each Friday, his health and work situation at his Church, where he is a pastor, is causing significant pressures and he is considering his role here at GWUC.
After those confidential discussions with Ray, he followed up the next week with a Resignation letter confirming that he will finalise his time here at GWUC on 28th February 2025. We accepted the situation and his resignation and he has confirmed his willingness to assist in training volunteers from our community.
We thank Ray, he has been a professional in every manner, much liked, and has aided our Welfare function in a variety of ways.
We wish him well in all of his activities and sincerely thank him for what will have been 18 months of excellent service and support.
Our Welfare program has been an important part of this congregation for many years. The congregation have always been very supportive in budget allocation, fundraising and supply of food items. For the last 5 years we have hired a part-time qualified coordinator, most recently Ray. Along with his resignation, he made some suggestions about how we could improve our program. Church Council and People & Culture Committee have agreed that a full review is appropriate before looking to hire a replacement. We are now looking for church members to undertake this review, in conjunction with Ray,
This is a unique opportunity to help shape this ministry for the years to come. The commitment is for February and perhaps March. If you are interested, please contact the church office, Ken Coutts or David Morgan.
