Report from Outreach & Social Justice MG to Church Council - August 2024
1. The Congregational Meeting on 28 July approved all recommendations put to the meeting by the COP 2024 Selection Panel. The 5 eligible projects will be funded from fete proceeds according to the brochure distributed prior to the meeting. This was a very pleasing outcome. We wish to thank the applicants who showed their commitment to the projects by submitting applications. We also wish to maintain enthusiasm for these causes by promoting them in fete materials and at a display in the Glen Waverley Library during September (Vida Foo organising that). We look forward to further passion for GWUC's outreach efforts through COP in 2025.
2. The Knitting Project to make hand knitted items for the KOGO charity has been very well supported by congregational members, church groups, friends and some community groups. We now have the following items to donate.
- Beanies 105
- Scarves 12
- Jackets - child 6
- Teddies 7
- Knee rug 1
- Adult cardigan 1
They will be displayed at the GWUC Art and Craft Show prior to sending them off. Many thanks to all who made items and to PamBunney who coordinated the project.
3. Material Aid projects (AnnetteWojak) - high level of interest is being maintained. Thanks to all who have been giving generously. See Bulletin for details of current project.
4. NAIDOC week activities were promoted and attended by various members.
5. Our August meeting has been cancelled. Next meeting - 3rd October. Ideas for the OSJMG are welcome, please email [email protected]
