My report starts back in 2023, where we had a cutting of the ties service for Neil Peters, which was a celebration of Neil’s Ministry and the sadness that happens when a Minister finishes their time in a Church. It was a joy to be involved in the Christmas Eve services as we celebrated the birth of Christ. I had a fall, playing cricket with my grandson, and the injuries did slow me down a bit but I am well on the mend now. The other hassle for me was that my car’s transmission died so my car was in “hospital” for a week. Fortunately, some friends lent me one of their cars, so I was able to get around. Pastoral care has kept me busy, especially regularly visiting David Williams as he entered into end-of-life care. I was honoured to be invited to preside at David’s funeral, he was a lovely man who had prepared for his funeral which gave the service his own special touch. I have done some services at Strathdon during January, but could only do one of the 2 services, due to Covid. My days and times have changed yet again and this is to fit in with the part time supply Chaplain. We met on line for special World Day of Prayer Committee meeting to try and work through the dilemmas that many Churches are experiencing due to the service being written by the Palestinian Women. The money collected will be used for the Living Stone project to help and support the young people of Palestine. We are hosting the World Day of Prayer at GWUC this year. This service was written wayback in 2017 and I am sad that so many Churches fail to see the difference between the Christian Women of Palestine and Hamas.
It is a joy to working with such an amazing Ministry team at Glen Waverley, there is sharing, caring and a sense of mutual support, a very positive environment and we all look forward to planning for the year ahead.
Also, my other Church, Charman UC (Black Rock) is also keeping me busy. I led Worship for most of January and have done quite a bit of Pastoral care. The building works have started on the Charman Road Church and we are looking forward to hearing an update on the work shortly. The joy is that we may be into the renovated building for Christmas.
