I am very mindful that Jemma Graham concludes her role with us at Easter. So, I have just begun conversations with relevant people about what our kids ministry will look like after Easter. I have spoken with Annette Wojak and will now talk with parents. At the same time we are in a time of transition in relation to the ministry team.

The Uniting Church has for a long time had a strong commitment to Aboriginal Reconciliation. The Uniting Church values the role of Congress and the church is learning to listen to Aboriginal voices and hear their wisdom.

Glen Waverley Uniting Church has an acknowledgement of the First Peoples on the front page of our website which includes a commitment to work for reconciliation.

Currently, this congregation has an acknowledgement to First Peoples on the screen for the live stream and recording prior to the service commencing. After words of welcome the wording is “We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we gather, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.”

I would like to propose:
 * that we have the same wording on the screens in the church prior to the commencement of 9.15, 11, 10 am services.
 * That Neil negotiates this with the tech team. I will also share this at the congregational meeting in March.
 * That the 8 am worship leaders are advised of this action. (I know that worship leaders at 8 am, at least sometimes offer an acknowledgement.)

Hoon is aware and supportive of this initiative. So, I seek church council support.

 * My big thanks for preparing the manse for me.
  * Special thanks to property team, IrisPang who donated furnitures, PamelaMcDonald for bedding and the office preparing many small items, and Glyn, Lucky, Iris, Andrew, Robert David for moving.
 * Last few weeks has been a good amount of learning about the congregation, including reactivation of the Intercultural Task Group.
 * Looking forward to join with members, leaders and councillors when the fortnightly Cross-cultural Bible Study starts from March.
 * I believe it is agreed with the council that I am working three weeks, with two thirds of days a week, which makes up to 0.5 FTE.
 * I am planning to travel back to Tasmania this month from 22nd till 28th and most like it will be the last week of the month, unless I am needed elsewhere. It will be mostly last week of the month that I will travel back and after the Easter, my family is planning to come to Melb instead me travelling.
 * Currently I am considering Monday-Wed as my working days which will be also flexible as needed.
 * Thanks again for all members’ welcome and prayer.

MINISTRY TEAM REPORT February 2023

Neil’s Report

The Ministry Team were very pleased to welcome RevHoonYou who will serve with us for the next 6 months. He has hit the ground running. We are supporting him answering questions and in trying to manage his time.

It is going well for me working from an office at the church from Monday to Thursday. I have advertised that I am doing this and people can drop in for a chat.

On Sunday Feb 5th we welcomed and prayed for Hoon and his ministry, and for his family, at the 9.15 service and the 11 am service.

The Lunar New Year celebrations seemed to go well. I was delighted to see all the volunteers participating at our tent. Well done to Vida and all the volunteers.

Many of our church activities which facilitate community engagement have started well – English classes, Playgroups, TheHub Drop In, and LeisureTime.

I am very mindful that JemmaGraham concludes her role with us at Easter. So, I have just begun conversations with relevant people about what our kids ministry will look like after Easter. I have spoken with Annette Wojak and will now talk with parents. At the same time, we are in a time of transition in relation to the ministry team.

I had my ear surgery on 8 Feb and took two days sick leave. I am now waiting for the ear to heal and know that all the cancer has gone.

Di’s Report

After a busy week at the Australian Jamboree Guide Camp, I seem to have hit the ground running. The camp was successful and I spent the week clearing rubbish, a fairly big job.

I have continued to meet with and walk with the GOWERS at Jells Park and also catch up with the GOMERS at the Church. I have continued to visit people and make heaps of phone calls. Took a lady for her Eye Surgeon appointment.

I have presided at a few funerals for people outside of the Parish. It is always an honour to support the families at these challenging times.

Attended an Inclusive Community meeting and we are planning a couple of Senior’s Services. Attended the first UCAF service for the year. It was good to welcome HoonYou to our team meeting, it is excellent to have his help for 6 months. I also met with Hoon for a short meeting.

Enjoyed a FISH group meeting at the Church. Attended the World Day of Prayer Victorian Committee meeting as we checked that all the information and booklets for the services had gone out.

We have had a few people in hospital and I have been able to visit these people. I was even able to drive one of them home from hospital!

We are due to have a Congregational Meeting at Black Rock in the coming week, to discuss our future.

I have had supervision and have met with a couple of ministry colleagues for mutual support.
