MINISTRY TEAM REPORT February 2022

Neil’s Report

I enjoyed three weeks leave in January. One week got derailed as I had to have a covid test. But the time off was relaxing. I continue to be thankful for the ministry team here and Joanne in the office. I want to acknowledge the great effort put in by Alanee in creating a wonderful and meaningful Christmas Installation. It was open for over two weeks and many were touched by experiencing Christmas through their senses. We have some work tom do in effectively engaging the community with our displays. Maybe the digital ministry space is part of the answer.

Alanee and I feel the Christmas theme worked well for us through Advent and Christmas. The theme “Close to home” connected with our Covid experience. We will continue to look for appropriate resource material to utilize.

I conducted the funeral service of AmyProe. Amy had been a long-standing member of the congregation. She was involved in worship, choir for 35 years, guild/UCAF and flower arranging. I conducted the funeral service of MavisAmbrose on zoom. Mavis was a faithful worshipper here and was the prompt for LynBromage to conduct Uniting Voices. I conducted the funeral service of Carol Barker who was a long-time member of the Methodist/Uniting church in NSW and lived in an aged care facility in Mulgrave for the last 3 years.

The Indonesian Fellowship is planning to stay with zoom for their 1 pm worship. However, on 27 March the Indonesian Fellowship wish to meet in the chapel, including zoom, for a service to celebrate their 5th Anniversary.

The annual fundraising Walkathon is being planned for Saturday 14th May and needs church council approval.

I was comfortable with announcing my retirement plans to the congregation.

Di’s Report

As we begin to emerge from lockdown and restrictions it has become quite busy. It was also busy during January when I was working across 3 Churches, due to the holidays.

We have had a number of people in hospital and so I was able to ring them. I have visited a number of people, or organised to have coffee with them. I was honoured to preside at RaeYuille’s funeral during January and also presided at a Funeral for a member from the Black Rock Church. There was also a lady from Cheltenham /Mentone, who I visited in McCulloch House.

I continue to walk most Mondays with the girls at Jells Park and generally get to catch up with the Gomers at the Church.

I was honoured to attend a reception for Queen’s Birthday Honours recipients, at Kingston Council, a most enjoyable evening.

I was due to have a week’s leave in January to help on a Guide Camp, but the camp was postponed due to Covid and will now happen during the first weekend of the School holidays. I will take the leave I didn’t take, from the 6th – 11th April.

I attend my last meeting as Presbytery Rep for the Lay Preachers Association. I am now the Uniting Church Rep on the World Day of Prayer Victorian Committee. I am also on the MLDC Committee for Presbytery. I have had Supervision.
