MINISTRY TEAM REPORT October 2019

Neil’s Report

I continue to enjoy ministry, leading worship, offering pastoral care, working with members of the congregation, working through some challenging issues at times and working within our current ministry team.

Since the last meeting I have met with my support group and my supervisor. I have also had a Peer Learning Group session which is both engaging and supportive as we reflect on community engagement. I have had a Pastoral Assistance Committee meeting in the city.

Last Saturday I was at Dad’s playgroup where we had 13 children and their dad’s. There were also several apologies and so it seems to be going well. I have been involved in welfare support. I have led services at Cumberland View.

I have presided at services giving thanks for the lives of Peter Riddett and Margaret Drummond. Margaret Riddett is active in UCAF and at 11 am and her husband, Peter had a strong faith has been in Strathdon for the last 5 years. Margaret Drummond has been actively involved in this church for about 50 years. I had the two services in one week and the next Sunday Daniel was preaching. This really helped me manage the week. The Fete was a great success all made possible by all the willing volunteers. The weather was better than forecast and the financial result excellent. What we can’t measure is the community engagement and connections made. But it is well worth all the work. Then we focussed on ‘gratitude’ in our 10 am service.

I have surgery scheduled for 23 October and I will be on sick leave for 2 weeks. I expect to be back on the 6th November all going well. I have the services when I am missing all arranged. Rev Tom Rose is available by negotiation for funerals if needed. I am confident that Alanee and Di, along with Joanne, and all the lay leaders will manage well during my two weeks of sick leave.

Di's Report

It was a joy to be able to share in the worship services on the 29th September at 9:15 and 11am services. I am grateful to all who helped in these services.

I had the honour of sharing “My Life in Guiding” at the UCAF meeting on October 1st as their “Mystery Guest Speaker.” I have had an amazing life in Guiding and recently received a service award for saying “yes” to helping with camps and a variety of other things, so it was good to share my journey with the UCAF.

We have had a number of members pass away so far this October which is always a sad time for the family here at Glen Waverley. There have been a number of people in hospital due to illness, or injury or surgery. Most of them are on the road to recovery or in rehab, but we still have concerns for some of the members.

I have been involved in helping to construct a Labyrinth at Sandringham Uniting Church. I am in a minister’s support group with some of the ministers in the Black Rock area and it was a delight to help out in this important task.

The Senior’s Celebration Concert was excellent, we all thoroughly enjoyed the very talented Evans Family, their musical numbers and their beautiful harmony when they sang. Th eldest son did a fabulous war songs medley on the piano. The high tea that followed was beautifully presented with lots of lovely food. Thanks to the Inclusive Community for their amazing work in organising this activity.

The biggest activity for the month has been the Church Fete. It was amazing to see the way that the Church people worked together to organise this fabulous fund raiser. Setting up on Thursday and particularly Friday was great and the Saturday was amazing. So much stuff walked out the door, so many people from the community came and shared over Devonshire Tea and some wonderfully tempting hot food. Best of all we managed to sell a huge amount of stuff! The clean up afterwards went smoothly with many willing helpers. Congratulations to everyone who made the day such an amazing success.

I was honoured to be invited to share in worship and communion at the Indonesian Service. It was excellent to share with them in prayer, bible reading and bringing the message to them.

I have attended Men’s Group and GOMER and have met with our Minister’s Support Group. I have also attended a team meeting, Spiritual Direction and Supervision.
