LEISURE TIME
General intro
- An inclusive and caring outreach program which encourages positive relationships
- Serves housebound or lonely seniors (65yrs +) from the GW area, currently 18 guests
- Operates every Monday all year except Christmas holidays, includes meal and activities
- Organised by a management committee. Covers own costs with guest contributions plus use of church rooms and a community grant from Monash Council to subsidise outings
- New guests are mainly identified by referrals from other community service agencies
- Approximately 60 volunteers on our 2010 roster, most helping once per month
- We organize 4 or 5 outings per year, including transport, to further enrich experiences
Next moves for Leisure Time?
- Ensure that our own congregation has a better idea of what Leisure Time does and about our links to the aged care agencies within our neighbourhood
- Encourage some seniors from within the congregation to become guests
How can GWUC assist Leisure Time?
- Raise awareness of what Leisure Time does and pray for both guests and helpers
- Explore links between Leisure Time and other GWUC groups to maximize outreach
- Most of our volunteers themselves are seniors. We always need new volunteers, both men and women, eg recently retired persons, for the roster and on the committee
- Provide input and ideas to the committee about ways to improve or modify what we do.
