MINUTES OF CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING

Thursday 17 April 2008 at 7.30 pm

1. Present: 'Rev Lynette Dungan, Alison Dingwall, Lynne Boyer, Murray Lowe, Amy Whittaker, Max Whittaker, Warren Greenwood, David Morgan, Rev Greg Fry, Kerryn Leister, Jan Clear, Doug Newberry, Roger Vass, Graham Lockhart, Brian Clarkson, Graeme Frecker (Chair), Wendy Wyatt (Minute Secretary).

2. Minutes of previous meeting (19 March)

Minutes were confirmed.

Welcome to all, especially Rev Steve Terrell who will be conducting the meeting following Church Council. Amy Whittaker, who goes into hospital tomorrow (18 April) for a back operation, assured of our thoughts and prayers.

As Rod Dungan has leave of absence, Graeme Frecker led devotions with prayer.

Graeme Frecker spoke to his network diagram which had previously been circulated to all members. Essentially for information and understanding about the things we have to deal with this year. Not complete or correct in every detail, but represents thoughts covered at the Executive Meeting about many integrated decisions which will have to be made during this year. Need to have discussion with Presbytery with regard to our contribution to Mission & Service. Ministry Team looking at their short term arrangements. A sense of urgency for some of these decisions and processes. To be talked about again.

3. (a) Deficit Finance Group

‘Thank you’ letters have been prepared. DFG total ($40,848) is correct.

(b) Congregational Meeting

Murray Lowe advised Congregation Meeting proposed for May. Probably a Monday night.

Audited accounts ready at the end of April.

4. 'Property Committee Report – tabled

5. 'Isaiah Festival – tabled

Church Council approved proposal. Alison Dingwall has prepared a list of permanent bookings at the church so that the Isaiah Festival dates do not clash. A minister is coming from Adelaide – a friend of Beth Hancock.

7. Ministry Report - tabled

Funeral of Gwenda Little 2.00 pm Friday 18 April.

Baptism of Anna Thot Daniels 9.00 am 20 April. Daughter of Mary Daniels.

Lynette took part, as part of chaplaincy team, in Monash Council Emergency simulation on 15 April.

Ministry Team is working on planning for combined service 11 May – Pentecost and Mothers Day.

Continuing calling people to new awareness of our missional imperative to be Christians in our daily lives, engaging in Christian practices with Elders and engaging and embracing ministry with children and families and young adults.

Alanee has information on Trivia night, Forge attendance and NCYC. Biggest BBQ coming up with stories and support for NCYC in all services on 4 May.

Pastoral visiting has included visiting new parents and request for baptisms are anticipated.

Two weddings are forthcoming: 19 April and 17 May.

Alison on leave for 3 months after July.

Alison has made home visits, had phone contact and afternoon tea groups.

A Newsletter to be distributed at Seniors Service 10 April – Alanee and Alison arranging.

3 May – ‘Life for Living’ Seminar.

4 May – Ecumenical Unit Sunday – visits from and to other churches.

Ministry to Seniors logo – an eagle rising, Isaiah 40:31.

8. Finance Report - tabled

9. Other business

(a) 'Outreach Project selection for Fete publicity:

Graeme has begun to approach COP Committee of last year to continue as before. Request is in hand.

(b) 'Cinema ticket proposal:

Council agreed that proposal goes to Finance Committee for consideration.
