Art Exhibition Idea
An art exhibition is another idea to consider for our list of events for proposal 2 of the Re-visioning 2022.
A kernel of an idea: brainstorming
Project 2: Program of Intercultural & Intergenerational Events
Practicalities:
- Where? Somewhere in the church
- When? Don’t know. When we can ventilate the spaces to the max? For how long? Long enough to make the effort worth it.
- How to hang? On what? The portable dividers? Windows facing out? Or “the prime real estate” of the glass walls of the foyer?
- What? Invite members of the congregation [all ages] to lend one of their favourite paintings/ photographs/ textiles for the exhibition? Scope to be discussed. This would generate wide engagement within the congregation.
- We could ask contributors to add a paragraph speaking to the piece. For example, what’s the story behind it? Why did you choose it? How did you acquire it? Any statement connected to the it that would be of interest to the audience because “every picture has a story”.
- Would we invite a couple of curators to choose and organize the exhibits? And we back them up with teams to
- help set up/ dismantle
- advertise; invite local schools; connect with local art groups
- seek contributions
- reproduce the ‘story of each piece’ in a standardized format.
- staff the exhibition spaces during opening hours
What would be the best way to organize/ display the works?
- Could different individuals (or groups) manage one part of the exhibition eg textiles/ portraits/ landscapes/ religious art….
- We could also limit what we sought by specifying the categories in advance – could be controversial.
- In one section –our diverse world -- would we seek to present exbibits from as many countries as possible -one per country? And represent them on a globe of the world with pins!
- This might be too ambitious: should we take on only part of the above? start small?
- Alternatively, would we open with some performances/ food/ an official opening?
- Would we invite an artist in residence?
WHAT DO YOU THINK? This is all beyond my pay grade.
