Supply Arrangement for the first half of 2023

Proposal

  • RevHoonYou has been proposed by Presbytery as a supply minister at GWUC for six months, commencing early February.

  • Neil, Glyn and David have spoken to him, and fully support the proposal. Neil knows him.
  • Hoon is looking for a half time position.
    • His family will remain in Tasmania, with him working 2/3 time at GWUC for three weeks, and then returning to his family for one week. The weeks are flexible.
    • We would supply a manse, probably #15, with minimal furniture.
  • This is seen as an intentional ministry, bring his gifts and strengths to a range of ministries, not just taking services.
    • Hoon has a real interest and passion for Cross-Cultural Ministry. He would like to lead worship but also have a focus on helping us intentionally think and explore cross cultural ministry.
    • He has also worked in youth and families ministry.
    • He would like our arrangement expressed in a covenant agreement so we are clear on expectations. We see this being agreed during January.
  • He knows Glen Waverley, having been in ministry at Monash UCA, and is enthusiastic about coming here.

Council accepted

  • By an email poll, Council agreed to the proposal.
  • The official form was sent to Presbytery 20 Dec 2022.

  • Neil and Hoon agreed on a preaching arrangement as at RosterPreaching

  • Jan 15, Property advised that the manse was ready and sufficient furniture to hand.
  • Feb 1 Hoon commenced.
  • Feb 2. Presbytery advised that PRC had approved the arrangements.

Covenant agreement

  • GlynHowells, VidaFoo, LinaLiu & LuckyKalonta offered to help draft the agreement.

  • Previous Council resource on intercultural ministry.

  • NeilPeters commented
"He might be able to help us sharpen our thinking about some of our local mission work. We tend to keep slipping into attractional activity rather than genuine engagement and working with the community. Another voice might help us clarify what we are trying to do."

  • VidaFoo asked
"Can he share some of the multicultural activities that he has been involved in and/or organised.
What are his future plans beyond the 6 months with us (other than his health)

  • HoonYou asked
"What have been done to build up a multicultural ministry so far? (cross-cultural/inter-cultural)
What need to be done in the future or what have been lacking?
If there are some Bible study available, how can we deliver to congregation? (Weekly Bible study or workshops?)

  • Priorities decided are:
    1. Building up multicultural ministry
    2. Leading worship.
    3. Training leadership
