Safety Team report

Safe Church training session

  • We have arranged three more sessions, and posted the following notice in the Bulletin
    • As part of our child protection policy, all designated leaders and those who may interact with children in the congregation are required to undertake safe church training, as well as having a Working with Children Check. We have scheduled three more sessions in the last week of June, namely Sunday June 24 at 2pm, Tuesday June 26 at 2pm, and Thursday June 28 at 7:30pm. Other members are welcome to attend. Prior notice to David Morgan or Dorothy Lockhart would be appreciated but is not essential.

  • These sessions have been advertised to safe church contacts from nearby UCA congregations.
  • Those in our congregation who need to do this have been directly invited by email.

Congregation commitment

  • In December 2016 the congregation meeting approved the proposal that: That the Congregation reject the Church Council’s proposed Code of Conduct for Members, and ask the Church Council to lead a process to develop a new way of describing how we aspire to treat each other.

  • That Code of Conduct, adopted by Council but rejected by the congregation, forms the basis of our current Safe Church posters.
  • Inspired by looking at church statements in the UK, we have come up with this proposed new poster.

    • SafeChurchPoster2018.png

  • It attempts to be succinct and focused, and to avoid legalistic language.
  • We would like to take it to a meeting of the congregation for approval, but want Council to affirm it first.
  • The chair of Congregation, JohnSnare has agreed to this.
