Definition of Roster groups at GWUC

  • All GWUC groups are defined in the Rolls database. This including a number of "Roster" groups that do not meet.
  • Group contacts are asked each year to check a list of their members as recorded in the database, as part of the annual reports. Roster groups have been omitted from the annual reports, and hence from the member check. This has resulted in some Roster groups being less accurate than other groups.
  • These group definitions are used to:
    • Generate group wiki pages.
    • Generate mailing lists for groups.
    • List the involvement of members on the wiki home pages.
  • Automatic allocation for rosters requires a number of preferences for each member of each roster, especially availability.
    • This is met by creating a wiki Preferences page, which lists all members of the roster group.
    • This duplicates the database definitions of the roster groups, requiring that they be kept in synchrony.
    • The preferences could be added to the Rolls database as Group properties, but the wiki Preferences page has the advantage of being editable by roster coordinators and volunteers.
  • Hence it does not seem possible to dispense with either of these group listings.
  • DLM has a script to quickly compare membership and point out differences. See here.
