How can GWUC assist Leisure Time?

  • Raise awareness of what Leisure Time does and pray for both guests and helpers
  • Explore links between Leisure Time and other GWUC groups to maximize outreach
  • Most of our volunteers themselves are seniors. New volunteers, both men and women, are most welcome for the roster and on the committee

What is it?

Leisure Time is a friendly high afternoon tea for isolated seniors from within our congregation or from the wider community. Guests who no longer are able to drive, and live within the Glen Waverley area, can be picked up and returned home by our volunteer drivers. All volunteers have police checks, organised by Leisure Time, at no cost.

When does it meet?

First Monday of the month, except public holidays. Hours are 2pm-3.30pm

Who meets?

Our guests are seniors, usually over 60 yrs, who are keen to mix with others.

How is it paid for?

Guests make a gold coin contribution

How does the church contribute?

Leisure Time is run entirely by volunteers who help as drivers, hosts, in the kitchen and making the refreshments. The church office is used for initial enquiries, photocopying when necessary, and heath and safety support.

Relationship with OnTheWayTogether

Leisure Time is a well established and much appreciated outreach GWUC program. From 2012 it has been included as an activity of Community Hub Missional Group. It also contributes to CommunityOutreach and InclusiveCommunity objectives.
