Community Hub Mission Group Response to Church Council's Future Directions Document
15/2/2022

CHMG met informally to discuss Council’s proposals. We agreed that they were all imaginative and certainly be likely to engage the community.
We assume you already have coordinators and volunteers in place for these initiatives.
We are concerned that our previous pool of volunteers has decreased significantly, as over the past two years volunteers have moved away, they have aged, their health has declined, and unfortunately, even died. Clearly we will need many more new volunteers and hope that they will come forward. Perhaps members of the Indonesian Congregation could be involved.
The current situation of our existing community was reviewed. We strongly support increasing the paid hours of our Welfare support worker. We consider this to be essential community outreach which is well established.
Our other community outreach initiatives are currently in recess until term 2. Nevertheless we have our successful existing structures in place as well as our experienced coordinators, and sufficient volunteers to open again, although on a smaller scale to start with.
We would appreciate feed back from Church Council.

Fleshing out the Vision 2021

A collection of documents relating to a visioning process begun in late 2021

  • Setting up of task group.

  • Interim report to October Council meeting

  • Revised report for November Church Council meeting.

  • MultiCrossInterCultural distinctions.

  • Edited up to Dec 4 and taken to Church Council 6 Dec 2021

  • Forwarded to those on MissionPilotProcess, CommunicationsGroup, CommunityHubGroup, InterCulturalTaskGroup20201109, InclusiveCommunityGroup and ElinorMcCluskeydeGarza and FayeMcDougall.

    • Church Council has, over the last few months, been looking at our vision to guide the resumption of activities in 2022. Four activities, in progress or evolving, have been identified as priorities in the attached document. You have been identified as involved, or potentially involved, in one or more of these. Before presenting this document to the congregation, hopefully in March, Council would very much value your input, including the resources that may be needed to fulfil relevant parts of this vision.

      Thanks,

      David
  • Comments from these groups.
    • Dear David and members of the Church Council

Thank you for including me in this email about the GWUC Re-vision for 2022.

I was/am a member of the Mission Pilot Project that was of necessity put 'on hold' by the covid restrictions. The information in Project 4 described in your document is certainly in accord with the intentions of this Project as I understand them.

In addition I can't help but notice that there are parallels between Project 2 and the Notes in the Re-vision document and Project 4 (the Mission Pilot Project) . There is some overlap between these activities which, in their detailed planning, may allow for streamlining in planning and actioning. It may be worth considering having observers working across these similar projects.

Thanks for all the work you do on behalf of GWUC.

      Warm regards
      Anne Newton
