== Fete Recommendation 2022 ==
Dear Church Council,
In June, Church Council supported the Fete Committee's intention to proceed cautiously towards a fete this year while keeping in mind that it may need to be cancelled.
A decision on whether to proceed with planning for the fete in October has to be made now as publicity needs to begin this week.
Stall convenors have been consulted and most have responded, indicating that they are happy to convene their stall, but would understand if the fete is cancelled. However, it is worth noting that the Adult Group has indicated that although they are happy to help with the Trash and Treasure they no longer want to be responsible for it. Their numbers are dwindling and they are all starting to feel their age. (In this regard, it has been decided that at future fetes we should not sell furniture or other large items. They are heavy, a lot of work to set up, hard to sell and costly to get rid of.)
Our church community could really do with an activity like the fete, but we have to acknowledge that COVID-19 still presents a health risk, and is likely to for some time yet, particularly for the elderly - the age cohort of those who are most active in the running of the fete. We should not expect them, or indeed any of our members, to work in a crowded indoor environment, where the risk of COVID-19 spreading is highest. If it is still advisable to wear a face mask indoors and to use sanitiser, this would be difficult to enforce. Physical distancing certainly could not be achieved. There is also the risk of key people having to isolate in the lead-up to the fete or at the time of the fete.
Given that the church will need to continue to take all reasonable steps to protect our members and visitors, the Fete Committee is reluctant to proceed and is sadly recommending that the Fete be cancelled for this year.
