Plant stall at the Fete

1. Schedule

1.1. Mid September

1.1.1. Write/contact nurseries enquiring whether they are able to assist again

  • Pinewood Nursery (Letter – Attention Dorothy)

  • Greenmount Nursery (Telephone call - contact is Craig Larkin)

  • Scotsburn Nursery (Telephone call – contact is Kay)

    • 300 Perry Road, Keysborough 9798 7066
  • Do not contact Holmesglen TAFE College – Speak to PeterTrewin who will follow up with person he knows there)

1.1.2. Start saving supermarket plastic bags

1.1.3. Approach people on the previous years’ plant stall roster to assist again and the time they are available

1.2. First week October

  • Obtain order list from Scotsburn Nursery website ( www.scotsburn.biz) to assist place order on Monday prior to Fete
  • Prepare signs for each type of plant and Donation list of which nurseries have provided plants
  • Give Greenmount Nursery a copy of the previous years’ list of plants they provided to us to assist them with this years list of plants
  • Contact WarrenGreenwood regarding borrowing his trailer and cover

  • Collect the following items: textas, bluetac, masking tape, string, drawing pins, watering can, hose and tap small connections, plastic folders, plastic supermarket bags, bum bags, price signs, scissors and Donation sign. Also additional change of $20,$10 and $5 notes for the $50 notes presented by buyers first up.
    • $20 of $2 coins
    • $10 of $1 coins
    • $5 of 50c coins
  • If the number of plastic supermarket bags is not high approach Coles Supermarket ,The Glen to take some from their supply of bags to be recycled

1.3. Monday prior to Fete

  • Email order form to Scotsburn Nursery and request they advise us (church office) of cost so we can pay on collection on Friday or EFT to their account.
  • Organise who is to collect plants from the nurseries and times
  • Arrange with WarrenGreenwood collection of his trailer and cover (ROUND PIN CONNECTION ON HIS TRAILER)

  • Contact Fete Committee if require more staff for Plant stall roster

1.4. Friday (Day before the Fete)

  • Collect WarrenGreenwood trailer

  • Collect plants as follows suggested times:
    • 10.00 am Pinewood Nursery (Trailer not required)
    • 11.30 am Greenmount Nursery (Trailer required)
    • 2.00 -2.30 pm Scotsburn Nursery (Trailer required) Also platforms for the trailer located in store room
  • Set up plants as they arrive on tressels as per plan from previous year (See Archive below.)
  • Place tressels on ground overnight to protect them against wind and theft

1.5. Saturday (Fete Day)

  • Place tressels on legs - Ensure all plants are on tressels including the large tomatoes except the very heavy pots/tubs. (A NURSERYMAN TOLD ME MANY YEARS AGO THAT PLANTS HAVE TO BE OFF THE GROUND IF YOU WANT TO SELL THEM)
  • Give plants a light watering
  • Place price tags on tressels and larger tub plants on the ground
  • Put up Donation list on legs of tent where they join using bluetac
  • Have someone on the roster divide the money float into the number of bum bags
  • Allocate bum bags to sellers and also “Please pay me” badges
  • Place bags of supermarket plastic bags in various areas of the stall
  • Encourage sellers to always have a plastic supermarket bag in their hand to serve people
  • Retain sufficient money to pay Greenmount Nursery on the basis all plants from them are sold (Note their plants are on consignment)
  • At say 10.30 am re-assess the selling prices to keep/get the stock moving

  • Water plants again if necessary
  • At mid day re-assess prices
  • Move stock to front tressels
  • Water plants if necessary
  • At 1.00 pm start pushing sales/giveaways

  • At 1.30 pm start packing/cleaning up

  • At 2.00 pm Note and make a list of which plants have not sold well so next year we either reduce the order or delete from the order.

  • Stack up tressels and legs and clean up area
  • Check bum bags to ensure no money left in them
  • At 2.30 pm take unsold Greenmount Nursery plants on consignment back to nursery and pay cash for those that have been sold. Also take empty trays & pots.

  • Any plants left over, decide whether to sell them on Sunday morning between services or just place them outside the door of the car park side of the church for people to take.(Ask for this to be mentioned on Sunday morning at all services)
  • If it is a warm and/or windy day a watering may be appropriate.
  • If selling on Sunday, set up in hall well after people have cleaned up and left the church. Make sure you keep supermarket plastic bags and have some change.

1.6. Monday (After Fete)

  • Advise Fete Committee of names, addresses and contact person of nurseries that have donated plants (Include Holmesglen TAFE ,595 Waverley Road Glen Waverley Refer Anne Moore). They organise thank you letters.

  • Sort out price signs and other items in anticipation of the following years Fete.
