English class time clash
JanClear wrote 5 Mar 2024
Good morning David, Just a quick email to let you and Church Council know that I have a meeting with the co-ordinator of English classes for Monash Council/Library this afternoon. Monash Council Library has changed the times of their English classes from Tuesday to Thursday. The times that they have made classes are 9am to 10am for Beginners and 10.30am to 11.30am for more advanced (The second session clashes with our class. Previously we had about 25 students attending our classes and now we are down to 9. I don’t really think that the Council will change their times but I have promised the students that I will meet the co-ordinator and see if they will make changes. Our tutors and helpers are very busy people and as we are already struggling to provide a tutor for every lesson (LynnPeters left and VeronicaWood is on sick leave) so I don’t want to ask them to change and it would be difficult to find an alternative date with their other commitments. I will let you know the results of the meeting. Regards Jan Clear.
- After the meeting
Good evening All, As promised I went and had a conversation with the Co-ordinator of English classes this afternoon. He was sympathetic and was sorry that the students were having to make choices about classes. Jason said that the times of their classes are related to rostering-they can’t give people too many lates, too many early shifts. Library staff are rostered on on different days. Their English rosters are organised until Easter. The Library classes run from 10am -11 am (Beginners) break and then more advanced classes are run from 11.30-12.30. He said that if students were attending the advanced classes, maybe they could bring lunch and we could start our sessions at 12.45 or 1pm. Room 4 is available during the afternoon. I know that Veronica is planning to return to classes in Term 2 and George is taking a break but I thought that they would like to know what is happening. I need to know if Lina, Susan, Laurel, Lynne and Glyn are available after 12.30. We can’t have our classes any time that the Library is having their classes, as some people attend their classes and our classes. If you ,as volunteers , are unable to do another time on a Thursday, we will leave our class at the present time and work with whoever turns up. David and Alison you may want to let CC people know -just to keep them in the loop. You will notice that we only have two tutors and four helpers , including Lina. If you can suggest anyone I could approach to help, that would be great. If Lina, Susan, Laurel, Lynne and Glyn could check their diary in the next few days and let me know later next week, that would be great. If you are like me, you probably have commitments on other days. Looking forward to hearing from you. Regards Jan Clear.
