Dad’s Chinese playgroup meeting 24 Jul 2018.
Report from GlynHowells.
Convener of the HUB missional group was there, along with playgroup leaders and Mike Foo (liaison) from GWUC and Joseph and Louise from Uniting.
Good meeting yesterday (24/7/18) between GWUC and Uniting in which we established a common understanding of what we’re doing. There were also great ideas shared by GWUC playgroup leaders and a clear idea presented as to the context out of which Uniting are operating.
Uniting reiterated that they do not see themselves parachuting in and out; they want to build a partnership.
{They are funded by Monash to provide services to the Chinese community, and in this case to expose children to their Chinese culture by bonding with their fathers in a playgroup setting.}
We agreed to:
- start small with Chinese Dads’ Playgroup in term 4.
- keep current name
- ask dads to pay $20/term and a 50:50 split b/w Uniting (cover some costs) and GWUC (to cover costs).
- For 2018 not part of HUB missional group as it’s a pilot via Church Council although it has the support of the Hub missional group and our current playgroup leaders and will use our playgroup spaces.
- seek a man/men from GWUC to volunteer to help and work alongside the men at the playgroup. Ideally someone who can commit to attending as many of the sessions as possible to provide continuity.
- Mike Foo will organise a meeting of those who gave their names at Gomer as possible volunteers.
Other ways of developing partnership
- Louise from Uniting Connections has offered to provide GWUC with expert/ professional speakers/ resource people to run seminars/ speak on relevant topics e.g. young people and their screens/ how to bring up your children in a disciplined way within the Australian culture…. A whole range of relevant topics on family and society.
