Progress Report to Church Council for the meeting on 24th October 2018
The first Playgroup session occurred on Saturday 13th October at 10:00 a.m. as planned.
By 9:30 a.m. Joseph Jin and two volunteers from Uniting, and Bev Richardson, Ken Hutchinson and Peter Stewart from GWUC had all arrived. They had unlocked the cupboards, put out the books and play equipment and had everything prepared and ready by the time the first dads and children arrived. Altogether 10 dads and 11 children (including one pair of twins) attended the first session. Ken had to direct them to Rooms 2 and 3 because some of them were confused, thinking they should join Music Maestro which was happening in Room 1. Joseph got all the dads to fill in the enrolment / registration forms for Uniting, while Peter collected the cash contributions and wrote the receipts (with some help from Ken). Rev Neil Peters attended the session for a while also. Fortunately the weather was good so a lot of the children were happy to play in the outdoor area. Others enjoyed the indoor activities in Rooms 2 and 3. After about an hour everyone gathered in Room 2 and formed a circle. Bev then led everyone in singing nursery rhymes, an activity much enjoyed by all.
At the end of the session everyone helped to pack up. The money collected ($188.00), and a copy of each receipt, was placed in an envelope marked “Chinese Dads’ Program” and placed in the GWUC letter box as previously arranged with the Office Manager. The intention was it would be banked on the following week.
Request to Church Council: As I have not made contact with the Treasurer, could Church Council please request the Treasurer or his deputy to set up a separate account for this program in the GWUC chart of accounts and to ensure that all contributions are booked to that account. At the end of the program the balance of the account (total income less total expenses) will be split 50/50 between GWUC and Uniting.
The next session is scheduled for Saturday 27th October.
