Chair election process
- Situation
- Unusual situation of a Council of mainly new members. Electing a new member as chair has difficulties, both for their understanding of the job and the meeting's ability to discern their potential.
- Council has traditionally chosen new office bearers in February each year, so we do have the option of re-visiting office bearers then, or of choosing a transitional arrangement until then.
- Previous office bearers are keen to help the new Council to establish itself.
The decision rests with this group.
- Suggested "Decision tree".
- Do we want to restrict nominations to continuing or renewing (not new) members?
- Do we have a candidate from that group?
- Do we want to consider a transitional arrangement?
- We could coopt Helen until Feb. She has agreed.
- We could form a "chair group" of people who might be prepared to stand for election in February; Helen would assist them for the rest of the year.
