#acl All:read Link to CouncilAgenda20190227 > CouncilMinutes20190227 == COMMUNITY HUB MISSION GROUP REPORT TO CHURCH COUNCIL == FEBRUARY 2019 === REPORTS RECEIVED AT THE MEETING, 13 FEBRUARY 2019 === ==== BADMINTON: ==== AndrewHosking reported that * the welcome new tables are now in use. * About 30 members of the local community are enjoying the fellowship of this flourishing group. * Ages range from 16 to 80! ==== CHURCH COUNCIL: ==== NeilPeters reported with pleasure, that * Di Patterson’s appointment has been extended for another two years. * Steps are being taken to have her recognized as a Lay Pastor in our Congregation. * Neil facilitated this group’s response to the Church Council’s survey relating to our Congregation’s current vision. The group’s response was entirely positive. ==== COOEE: ==== GeraldineFleming reported that this very small group continues to support the very real need of the participants. ==== THE HUB: ==== JudithGreenwood reported that The HUB completed another very busy and very successful year. * Special morning teas were very well attended and the $5564.70 raised was distributed among a variety of important community causes. * Christmas story booklets were again presented to young children visiting our Church for Playgroups and Mini Maestros, and Nativity photos were again taken in dress ups provided by the Hub. * Several new volunteers have been added to the roster. * During March, the Hub will again have a display in the Glen Waverley Library. ==== LEISURE TIME: ==== LaurelMuir reported that * as a six- month trial, Leisure Time will only operate twice a month. * This decision has been taken is due to the unsustainable pressure that has been placed on the few volunteers, and the decreasing needs of the guests. * Guest have all been notified. * The program of outings will continue as planned. ==== PLAYGROUPS: ==== BevRichardson reported that * already many new families have been welcomed * all leaders have returned. * Several people have agreed to be on call as emergency helpers. ==== WELFARE: ==== DorothyLockhart reported that * there continues to be a strong demand for support both from the local community and from quite distant suburbs who have heard of our work. * Prior to Christmas the generous support of the Wesley College community was very much appreciated. * The allocation of COP money and the continuing donations from the Congregation have been gratefully received. <> === MATTER OF CONCERN === * Dorothy expressed her extreme concern about the future of our Congregation’s Welfare Support Mission. * The present leadership is fully stretched and cannot continue indefinitely. A part-time, qualified social worker is certainly needed for our work in this area is to be sustainable into the future. * She made a heartfelt plea for Church Council and the whole Congregation to consider this matter seriously. === GENERAL BUSINESS: === Proposed craft group. * SusanKaroly and JudithGreenwood have proposed that a Craft Group be set up at the times when Leisure Time was previously operating. * Susan has volunteered her expertise and previous experience with similar groups to lead this venture. * The meeting agreed to write to Susan supporting her proposal and to recommend this venture to Church Council.
