Children and Families Report - April 2012

Term 2 has started back in ernest this week. Playgroups have enjoyed celebrating the new Community Hub with lots of bubble blowing and songs and a visit from Sasha, the Community Hub mascot.

The 10 families who attended camp from 23 - 25 March had a fantastic time. We spent time exploring the “Words, Works and Wonders” of Jesus in Mark’s Gospel. Our speaker, Phil Day, had many exciting activities for us to participate in that then related to our worship with communion on the Sunday morning. People were able to choose the activity that they would like to participate in. As well as many learning opportunities, there were many opportunities for people to relax and spend time building community together. This theme is going to be continued during the 4.30 worship, where we will be continuing to explore the Gospel on Mark.

At our April Children and Families meeting, we discussed some of the issues surrounding the cost of camp and ways to make the camp accessible to more people. We also discussed combined services, both 5th Sunday’s and other combined services to special occasions. We are currently grappling with the issue of running the 4.30 service during school holidays as well as which combined services to still hold the 4.30 service. At the moment, the group thought that 4.30 should not meet for the first and middle weekend of the school holidays and that for the combined service in July, 4.30 service would still meet because of the school holiday break decreasing the number of times we could meet in June and July.

Greg and I are exploring some of the issues surrounding ministry to children in 2012 and what this means for us at GWUC and the programs that we offer.
